Family news... Farewell Col Adamson; Preschool ground improvement; Parish Council meeting; Swans' breakfast; Men's Dinner with John Chapman

Dear Friends,

Some church “Family” things we would like you to know...

1. Tonight we farewell our beloved Col Adamson who has been playing music for 7pm and co-ordinating all the song choices and musicians. Col has been the most cheerful, servant-hearted, hard-working, piano-banging, people-loving and Jesus-focussed guy, so we will miss him! But we have greatly appreciated his fellowship here and it is right to thank God for him and also to release him to full-time work at his ‘real’ church, Northmead Anglican. Thank you Col, and may you and Sally continue to serve keenly and lovingly.

2. The new grounds for the Preschool are completed and looking and working very well. It will help Alex Orange and team enormously to have such safe and functional property. A big thank you to the Preschool Board (and especially Peter Hicks) for pursuing the development, and a very big thank you to Rod Hills from 10am, for professionally and painstakingly overseeing the work every morning — to its excellent completion. It will be “opened” officially on 21st March (after our 10am / Preschool service).

3. The Parish Council had its final meeting last Monday before the AGM puts a new Council in place (22nd March). Please remember that at the AGM — 8pm in the Conference Room — there will be news on Weddings, Youth, Building plans and how St Thomas’ might plant a church in 2010.
On Monday night we approved a much better data projection system and screen for St Thomas’. Up till now our unwieldy screen and unpredictable projector have meant huge limitations for mission news, youth and children’s reports, etc. but this new one will mean better communication and even preaching aids (for the uninteresting preachers who need these things!). This new system will be totally appropriate to our building, in keeping with the sandstone and attractiveness — but it will cost $25,000. We are asking St Thomas’ to help us by giving towards this without directing your normal giving away. I think this Parish Council decision is very forward-thinking and helpful. Will you help make it happen?

4. Next Saturday is the Swans’ Breakfast and next Sunday Tim and Sally (Lachlan, Annabelle, Edward and Adelaide) Swan will be with us. We never fail to be stirred and strengthened by their fellowship and the Santiago ministry. Please come and enjoy their company and encourage them!

5. Finally — I hope that as many men as possible will come to the Chappo dinner on 8th March. In his 80th year but still as sharp and urgent as ever — it will be great to have a hall-full. Please get your ticket and — if you can — bring a friend.

Yours in fellowship,
Simon Manchester
