ministry centre buiding project

The following is an article written by Churchwarden Peter Hicks for the
July 2008 issue of the St Thomas' Parish Council Update Newsletter.

This project is about transforming one of our heritage buildings in poor condition to a modern conference and staff centre for growing and encouraging our Ministry. In addition, the project incorporates four residential units. This aspect to the project reduces the Parish’s exposure to provide accommodation for our ordained ministry team – especially singles or couples. The project will therefore provide either accommodation or a financial offset to the renting of alternate housing.

The Ministry Centre committee has met several times to finalize the development application to be lodged with North Sydney Council.

This is anticipated to be ready for lodgement during August, 2008. Prior to lodging the development application we are required to obtain Sydney Diocese endorsement to the proposal. This process has been more involved than envisaged and we are preparing additional documentation to submit to the relevant diocese committee over the next few weeks. Tendering of the project to a number of builders will commence once development approval is gained.

A detailed communication and fund raising program is under preparation and you will be hearing more soon! In the meantime we thank God for the excellent progress to date, the result of the annual heritage fundraising ($300k+) and we ask for your prayers as we seek approval from various groups to put in place this important Ministry tool.
