8am

Open Bibleprayer book communion service

Each week the 8am congregation takes part in the Holy Communion, or Lord's Supper, in which the sacrifice of Christ for us is remembered through the ceremony of eating bread and drinking wine. This ceremony has been followed for almost two thousand years. This service has brought to generations of Christians Christ's teaching, comfort, confidence, companionship and Christ's blessing.

Throughout each week of the month the St Thomas' 8am service follows one of a set of variations of the standard prayer book service — either from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer (BCP) or An Australian Prayer Book (AAPB).Cross on Communion Table

The 1662 prayer book service was based on that created by Thomas Cranmer in 1549 and 1552. Thomas Cranmer was one of the greatest writers, and one of the most profound thinkers, of the Tudor period in England. The depth of thought, and the beauty of the language, have given enlightenment and comfort to millions of worshippers through the ages. There is a reverence, a sense of peace, an assurance of the eternal presence of God in this beautiful and moving service.

An Australian Prayer Book is an updated version of the 1662 Prayer Book, adapted in 1978 for Australian congregations.
